CJ Pask Gimblett Road Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2009
From the founders of Gimblett Gravels winegrowing in the Hawke's Bay comes this classic Bordeaux Blend. Dark fruits combine on the nose with cherries and blackcurrants. A floral note lifts the blend. Underlying earthiness mingles with warming oak spices and vanilla. The palate is medium to full bodied in the mouth, yet soft as it shows the dark fruits detected on the nose. This wine shows great concentration, something lacking in lesser pinot gris. Classic varietal aromas of pears and quince combine with hints of lemon pie in this immensely drinkable Nelson wine. The palate is lingering and softly textured, with balanced residual sugar and clean acidity. There is a medium finish of warm spice characters adding final interest to the wine.
