New Zealand Dessert Wine

New Zealand Dessert Wine is commonly served alongside any kind of dessert, but can even be enjoyed as a dessert replacement. A good rule of thumb to go by is to ensure your New Zealand Dessert Wine is sweeter than the food it is served with.

All of the hand-picked bottles of New Zealand Dessert Wine shown below have been chosen to represent the best of what NZ offers in 'sticky' wines. Wonderful botrytis affected fruit flavours balanced with a good backbone of acidity to avoid any 'cloying' mouthfeel. Here at nzwineonline, we love our stickies, and highly recommend any of the below select examples from New Zealand.

Alpha Domus 'The Pilot Leonarda' Late Harvest Semillon 2009

Framingham Marlborough Noble Riesling 2011
This extremely limited wine is made in a style similar to a German Auslese “Gold Kapsule”. Ideally, grapes for this wine are not 100% affected by botrytis, and have some primary Riesling notes derived from “clean” fruit to provide complexity.

Ata Rangi 'Kahu' Botrytis Riesling Martinborough 2008
Kahu, Maori for Harrier Hawk, inspired the name for the vineyard and the luscious dessert wine grown there. Rich botrytis characters of ripe nectarine, mandarin and a hint of nutmeg provide a beautiful foil for the classic Riesling aromas of lime and talc.

Cloudy Bay Marlborough Late Harvest Riesling 2005
Another great Dessert wine from Cloudy Bay, showing some complexity instead of just outright sweetness. A perfect match with a lemon tart.
