You Say Syrah, I Say Shiraz Masterclass

Ever wondered what the difference is between Syrah & Shiraz? Want to know what NZ Syrah tastes like and why it is getting so much good press lately, particularly from Australian wine writers? Come join us at this exclusive event as we explore the spiritual home of Syrah, the Rhone Valley, and contrast with Australian Shiraz and New Zealand Syrah.

We are very excited to have John Hancock of Trinity Hill wines leading this formal tutored masterclass. John is responsible for two of New Zealand's best Syrah's, and is one of the pioneering winemakers in the now famous Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawkes Bay. John will be joined on the panel by two other NZ winemakers to lead us through the tasting.

We will look at 2 Syrah's from the Rhone valley to set the tone for the evening. This will be followed by 3 Australian Shiraz from three different regions to explore how Australia took the grape variety and made it's own distrinct and universally popular style. We will conclude the tasting with four New Zealand Syrah to compare and contrast the similarities and differences with Australia and the Rhone Valley.

At the conclusion of the tasting, there will be an opportunity to informally meet and chat with the winemakers over a glass of wine and light canapes.
