A big congratulations to Lowburn Ferry who have taken out the Pinot Noir category of Winestate Magazine's Wine of the Year Awards for 2011. Their wines are brand new to our site, and we are seriously impressed with the quality of their vino, as well as their list of accolades and awards achieved in a short space of time.
2010 Lowburn Ferry 'Home Block' Central Otago Pinot Noir.
2010 was a sensational vintage for Central Otago and this wine benefits greatly. A lovely aromatic nose leads to a lifted perfume of spice and cherry. Rich and concentrated on the palate with ripe, red and dark fruits, hints of chocolate and subtle integrated oak, the wine has mouth caressing tannins and a very long finish. It's attractive now, maybe at it's best from 2013 onwards and will continue to cellar well through to 2015+. On sale for a limited time $41.95. As well as winning the Winestate award, this wine has achieved Blue-Gold in Sydney, Gold in NZ International Wine Show, and many other rave reviews from wine commentators.
You may also enjoy Lowburn Ferry's Skeleton Creek Pinot Noir 2009, which is a bit more generous with an extra year's bottle age and a very attractive, luscious wine. On sale for a limited time $36.95.

Wither Hills Two Tracks Pinot Gris 2011
We named this as one of our top 10 and best value pinot gris last year, and the price just got better. A slightly sweeter style pinot gris with pear and a hint of spice. Stonefruits and pear lead on the palate, which is quickly followed by a liveliness thanks to really fine acidity. This is a well-balanced gris - not too sweet or too dry/acidic. Drink now-end 2013. An incredibly low $13.95 on special
Staete Landt Marlborough Pinot Gris 2010
This is serious pinot gris territory folks. Just landed on our shores and currently being enjoyed by many of our wine club members. Full and round with ripe queen peaches, stewed pears in the mouth with a touch of toffees, cinnamon and spice. A grainy texture and soft nutty complexity showing notes of baked quinces and ripe pears. It has excellent length and weight, courtesy of oak and lees work by a skilled winemaking team. Immediately approachable, but will gain further complexity through to 2014+. A whopping 95/100 in Gourmet Traveller Wine, January 2012. $29.95 on sale now - save $5.00 per bottle.
