Stonecroft 'Old Vines' Hawkes Bay Gewurztraminer 2009
The 2009 Stonecroft Old Vines Gewurztraminer from the Gimblett Gravels was picked very ripe with a small amount of botrytis influence – but not really enough to appear amongst the opulent gewurz notes. Light-medium gold in colour, it has a powerful aromatic bouquet with a fat texture and grainy, spicey finish. It is off dry, ie medium residual sugar and very easy drinking now. Not a subtle delicate wine, this is big and concentrated, and absolutely delicious.
Drinking well now, it will continue to develop over the next 10+ years.

- "This is awesome! A spectacular wine exhibiting powerful aromas of
tropical fruit, lychee, floral and spice. The palate is intense,
concentrated and richly textured with superb density and whispering
sweetness leading to an almost endless finish. The wine is saturated
with gorgeous fruit flavours well supported by the sumptuous mouthfeel
and breathtaking intensity. At its best: now to 2020. " Sam Kim, Wine Orbit NZ, May 2011
- "New Zealand gewürztraminer at its glorious best. Exotically perfumed,
with ripe ginger, spice and honey aromas, it is a weighty, complex wine
with exceptionally rich peachy, spicy flavours. An authoritative wine,
it is likely to be long lived, but is already an arresting mouthful." Michael Cooper, Listener 2010
