Te Mata Estate Awatea Hawkes Bay 2008
Te Mata Awatea ’08 has a dark crimson colour with fragrant
aromas of blackberry, cherry, lavender and cedar. The palate is layered
and complex, with fresh blackberry and raspberry flavours to the fore
and ripe firm tannins on the finish.
Awatea ’08 is a blend of 44% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 16%
cabernet franc, and 7% petit verdot.
Drink now, but really hitting it's straps from 2013 through to 2016. Match with savoury red meat dishes and hard cheeses.

(2009 Vintage) - "Lovely big cassis and plum fruit flavours with hints of mint, floral
and spice interwoven with classy oak. Fruit-focused, chewy red with a
lengthy finish. deliciously drinkable now but with plenty of ripe
tannins. Clearly a great vintage for Awatea. "

- 92/100 (2008 Vintage) - Gourmet Traveller Wine Jun/Jul 2010 "Strong sweet fruit with plump, ripe berry, plum, spice, tobacco and floral flavours. An impressively dense wine with layers of flavours that nicelyenvelope a classy oak influence. Accessible and very attractive."
- 94/100 (2008 Vintage), Tyson Stelzer "RRP $46.00. Little brother to Te Mata’s flagship Coleraine, and a more expressive reflection of its vintage. A particularly fragrant season shines through in lifted blackcurrant and rose petal nuances. A wine of finesse and integration, it’s drinking well now, but don’t hesitate to put a few down for the medium-term."
