Wild Rock Gravel Pit Hawkes Bay Merlot Blend 2009
check out our video review

The Wild Rock Gravel Pit has an opaque core colour with a vibrant garnet rim. Aromatically profuse with dollops of black doris plum and blackberry, laced with cedar, dark chocolate and thyme. The palate is thick with fine soft tannins that meld with abundant, ripe fruit. Balanced acidity provides the structure to match the flavour intensity.

Drink now-2014.

    • 5 stars and #2 Merlot blend in NZ, Cuisine Magazine, September 2010, "From the famous Gimblett Gravels district, this intense red suits and old-fashioned Kiwi roast lamb perfectly, with its attractively pungent aromas of blackcurrant, cinnamon, vanilla and dark plum, ahead of a multi-layered mid-palate of pure fruit enhanced by taut tannins and a long finish."

We tasted this blind at a tasting party with friends and couldn't pick it as a Merlot-dominant blend. It's so powerful with gripping tannins and a really complex long finish. Paid about $25 for it and could easily part with more for a wine this good
