Craggy Range 'Aroha' Martinborough Pinot Noir 2008
'Aroha' is made from the very best parcels of Pinot Noir grapes growing
in Craggy Range's Te Muna Road vineyard in Martinborough. These parcels are
hand harvested, naturally fermented and matured in French oak before a final selection
and bottling some 16 months after vintage.
The aromatics reveal black cherry, bark,
plum, dark spices and truffle with a hint of old, dark red rose petal. Rich,
yet not heavy, the palate is densely wound and brooding with fine acidity and a
core of suede like tannin. Flavours of dark berry fruit, ripe plums, fresh dug
earth, spice, coffee, hints of fennel and liquorice unfurl on the palate. The
wine finishes with length and grace.
Drink now to 2017 - will be drinking particularly well from 2013.
SOLD OUT.

“The 2008 Aroha Pinot Noir is still a little pinched on the nose, but
there is certainly some very pure raspberry and cranberry fruit in there
waiting to unfurl with age and again, there is a touch of apricot just
underneath all with excellent definition. The palate has good structure,
perhaps with a little more weight than the 2007, ripe plumy fruit, dark
cherries, nice grip on the finish. This is a Pinot with ambition.”

“Craggy’s ascent into the Pinot Noir stratosphere appears to have no
bound, with yet another 2008 single vineyard wine reaching our shores.
Precision and delicacy are the themes of its lifted violet style. It is
blessed with a very fine, silky structure, with the best tannin profile
of any vintage to date.”
