Te Mata Bullnose Hawkes Bay Syrah 2010
check out our video review

Bullnose ’10 has a dark crimson colour, with complex aromas of boysenberry, raspberry, red plum, red roses and allspice. The palate is full and even with great balance and purity of varietal expression. Powdery tannins provide structure and a long, elegant finish.

Drink now-2017. Match with all the traditional foods that suit great red table wine (such as noble cuts of meats roasted or in casseroles, in particular lamb and game).

2010 Vintage

  • 5 Stars, The Age, Ralph Kyte-Powell, Jan 2012 "Describing Kiwi syrah as “Rhone-like” is a cliche. Let’s switch it around and say some modern French Rhone reds are “New Zealand-like”, an idea well illustrated by this excellent drop from Hawke’s Bay. The nose is exotic and complex, with deep plummy fruit running through meaty notes, musky floral touches and suggestions of pepper, allspice and earth. It has super-fine texture, good depth and lovely intensity, yet it’s subtle, moreish and ultra-long at the finish."

2009 Vintage

  • 98/100 "An elegant yet dense red with white and black pepper adding spice to red berry flavours. There's also a touch of floral characterhs. It has a rich and velvety texture. Will age splendidly." Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, Jun/Jul 2011
  • 5 Stars (2009 Vintage) - "Syrah from Hawkes Bay, on the east coast of New Zealand’sNorth Island, is New Zealand’s most exciting emerging wine type. Bullnose ’09 is one of the best, showing typical regional purity in its aromas of berries, florals, rosewater and spice. It has a silky middle-weight palate that’s complex yet fresh, very long and balanced by fine, dry tannins." Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, Dec 21, 2010
  • 96/100 (2009 Vintage) - Bob Campbell MW "Lovely elegant yet dense red with white and black pepper adding spice to red berry flavours. There's also a touch of floral/violet character adding extra complexity. Lovely vibrant and slightly edgy red that will age splendidly. It has a great, rich and velvety texture. Terrific!" www.bobswinereviews.com

Delicate and complex wine. Peppery nose, dark red fruits and gamey. Fine tannins, some olive and blackcurrant. Not overburdend with French oak - layered and complex but needs two years to open up to it's best

Tried the 2009 - nose was fantastic - lots of broad fruit, yet smooth and deep. In the mouth was awesome - French Oak makes it really glossy. Probably needs a year but all the characteristics are there...Good value even at this price point

I decanted this wine, gave it a lot of Air and had a Lamb roast alongside - it was a match made in heaven!! I will say that this wine will get even better with time. More structure and integration with the Tanins will make it a classic to match it's Brother - Coleraine.
